What you bring to the table
Your background: MBA is nice but not essential. What matters is 10+ years in UAE banking where you actually brought in business. Relationship management, corporate banking, business development – something where you had to sell.
Your contacts: This is make-or-break. You should have genuine relationships with senior people at major UAE banks. Not just business cards – people who’d grab lunch with you and talk about their current challenges.
You understand banking: Property valuations fit into mortgage lending, asset-backed financing, commercial real estate loans. This shouldn’t be news to you. You’ve probably been the guy requesting these valuations from your previous role.
Your personality: Independent enough to work without supervision. Confident enough to present to bank executives. Realistic enough to know when a deal isn’t happening. Patient enough for banking timelines but persistent enough to actually close business.
